Student Organization Registration
Step 1: As a currently enrolled student at UW-Madison, you may complete and submit the 2009-2010 online application form below. The primary contact person for the organization must complete the application.
NOTE: As part of the registration process, you will attest, as the primary contact person, that your organization will comply with student organization eligibility requirements, nondiscrimination policies as related to membership and programming, and that the information you provide on the registration form is accurate to the best of your ability. You are also required to inform your membership about university policies and procedures. If you'd like to review this information prior to filling out the registration form, these requirements are listed in the Eligibility and Registration section of the Student Organization Handbook.
Step 2: Complete a CfLI Orientation Session, which provides valuable information on resources that develop and strengthen your student organization.
- Student organizations that were registered last year in 2008-2009, will be authorized to complete the Orientation Session online through My UW. The online Orientation Session is currently under construction and is expected to be available by August 14, 2009. At that time, the primary contact will be given authorization to take the online orientation. The primary contact person, as the student organization's representative, must complete the Orientation Session on behalf of the group.
- New student organizations in 2009-2010 and for other student organizations not registered last year in 2008-2009, must attend a face to face Orientation Session. The first Orientation Session will be held on August 17, 2009. Dates and locations are listed on the Orientation Session website. Orientation Sessions are offered readily throughout the year. Please send a student representative from the group (not necessarily the primary contact person), who will share the information with the rest of the organization's members.
Step 3 (if applicable): Chapter presidents of social fraternities and sororities, at the beginning of each semester, must complete the Greek Contact Inventory Form, indicating any changes in officers. Submit a printed copy to the Greek advisor, Center for Leadership and Involvement, Room 239 Red Gym.
Step 4: The Center for Leadership and Involvement (CfLI) staff will review your online registration form for accuracy, compliance with eligibility criteria, and completion of all steps of the registration process. In most cases, this process will take 1-2 weeks from the date of completion of Steps 1 & 2 above. In the early fall semester, the process usually takes 3-4 weeks due to the heavy demand of hundreds of student organizations applying to register. Since Orientation Sessions do not begin until late August, please note that the processing of applications filed in August 2009 will most likely not be completed until the end of August or the first week of September. After approval from CfLI, the primary contact person will receive an email notification verifying your organization’s status as an approved, registered student organization. The organization’s information will then be uploaded to the Directory of Registered Student Organizations.
Note: Student organizations that were registered during 2008-2009 may retain RSO privileges through October 1st, 2009. At that time the group must have re-registered to receive RSO benefits.
