In this talk, he will outline Du Bois’s approach to the sociology of education – with examples to be drawn from works including the Atlanta University Publication “The College-Bred Negro” (1900), The Souls of Black Folk (1903), and The Brownies Book (1920-1922) – and spell out the implications of Du Bois’s approach for contemporary research in the field at a time when education, including as it relates to issues of race, is central to many consequential social, political, and cultural debates.
