Zoë Timms: Leadership and International Education

November 11, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

In 2002, Founder and Executive Director of Women’s Education Project (WEP), while living and working in India, Zoe Timms wanted to help one young woman obtain an MBA and was soon inspired by many young women with college and career aspirations, but trapped by poverty.

In developing WEP’s first Center in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Zoe worked with the students and community to build the WEP model: a safe lively environment for young women to study, receive financial, academic and social support, and most importantly, discover their Voice. After the college day, students meet friends to study in the library and computer lab, attend tutorials and enjoy daily nutritious snacks. On weekends and holidays, they attend WEP’s unique I am a Leader workshops and field trip program to learn life-skills and discover their career aspirations.

Today, WEP operates three Centers in South India, serving 300 students and has almost 600 alumnae. In 2015, WEP opened its country office WEP-India in Bangalore and hired its first Director.
